It has been an interesting month of quilting for me. I have made several practice quilts to donate and a few keepers as well. I began this season of quilting by vowing to quilt first and only (if possible) with what I had in my over stuffed fabric drawers. I had precuts from my earlier addiction (which I had kicked pretty well for awhile) and c'mon! there is ALWAYS a quilt to be made from drawers of precuts- mostly charm packs and jelly rolls. (I won't even get into the large BINS of fabric behind my machines yet) It’s been fun and therapeutic.
This was made with the fabric line Giggles. Go ahead and google it and you will find out how long it’s been since I have quilted (3 yrs!). But it is SO cute and I am really happy with the way this one turned out. I got the backing/binding fabric at JoAnn’s. The sock monkey fat quarter material was purchased with my grandson in mind, when he was born. Uh, he just turned 7! Oops!
So I was well on my way and happily piecing together quilts, looking through my old quilt magazines for ideas and reacquainting myself with Jenny Doan's video tutorials. Then JoAnn stepped in. As in JoAnn Fabrics. And their 3 day coupon for 75% off fat quarter bundles. Uh oh. The addiction has returned
I scored a LOT of goodies- here are some:
FYI: There are several ways to use fat quarters. Being a precut preferred quilter, I referred to these guides for cutting them up:
Several of the bundles were flannel so I decided to use my 10” tumbler template to cut 4 from each fat quarter....
...to make this quilt. I have been using flannel these days for my “batting” so this one has 3 layers of flannel. And I love it and am keeping it for myself! It has hot pink flannel backing and is so snuggly.
I knew I had purchased this vivid multi color layer cake for some reason and when I paired it with the black roly poly I found in another drawer, I knew I had seen this somewhere. Yes! It was using the large 10” hexi template! The bright border jumped out at me in the store.
Last but definitely not least is what I finished today- the BoHo Baby Quilt! Some may call it a honeycomb quilt.
If any of you quilters out there are on FB you have no doubt had the advertisement from Quilt Comfort come across your newsfeed for 115 piece charm pack; well that’s what I used for this along with my 5" tumbler. It definitely gives this that boho look! I found a large print paisley fabric for the backing. I am going to make another one or two of these, I like it that much!
Thanks for stopping by.
